Goddess of Savignano
24,000 BCE
Serpentine – 8.9″ high
Found in 1925 in Savignano sul Panero,
in the Province of Modena, Italy

Cornelia Kavanagh savignano Goddess of Savignano Italy’s earliest and most famous prehistoric treasure, Savignano was discovered by a farmer digging outside his stable near Modena. The figure’s elongated conical head differentiates her from most other Upper Paleolithic goddess figures, except for two that were found in the Grimaldi caves of Liguria. Perhaps Savignano’s owner lived in Grimaldi and lost the figure while hunting?
